They have soft bodies to to deal with the high pressure in this zone. They also eat the plants or animals that float down from the higher zones. Midnight Zone - Animals also make their own light in this layer (bioluminescence). They are more sluggish to cope with the low food energy. There is not a lot of food and eat the things that drift down from the sunlit zone. Twilight Zone - Since this is an area that is very dimly lit, animals have adapted themselves to produce their own light (bioluminescence). Most animals in the ocean live in the sunlit zone or migrate to it in search of food. The animals in the Hadal Zone are colorless and have wide eyes to detect predators Sunlight Zone - plants are adapted to live here because this is the only place that allows enough light for photosynthesis. Since these areas have very high pressure (the deeper you go the more pressure) they have soft bodies to deal with it. There is not a lot of energy in this food so they cope with this by being more sluggish. There is not a lot of food in these layers so if they can't migrate to the sunlight zone, they will eat the dead plants or animals that drift down from the sunlight zone. This helps them to find a mate or catch prey. Since these zones are all dark, the animals have adapted by producing their own light called bioluminescence. There are many of other animals that live below the sunlight zone in the Midnight, Abyssal, and Hadal Zones and have special adaptations to live there. One major advantage to not living in the sunlight zone, but rather in the darker zones below, is to be able to live away from predators. Most animals in the ocean live in the sunlight zone because there is plenty of food here. Plants can only live in the Sunlight Zone because it is the only place that allow enough light for photosynthesis.
